Over the past 30 years, Richard Prince has worked across a range of media producing a remarkably innovative body of work. It was in the late 1970s that he fist rephotographed advertisements from magazines, presenting the resulting images as his own and marking a watershed moment in contemporary art practice. Prince was at the forefront of a generation of artists challenging ideas of authenticity, originality and the value of the unique art object.
This book is published on the occasion of the exhibition Richard Prince: Continuation at the Serpentine Gallery, London (26 June to 7 September 2008). It is both artist’s book and exhibition catalogue, featuring image layouts designed by Prince; his text Bringing it All Back Home, first published in 1988; as well as an interview with the artist conducted by Hans Ulrich Obrist (Co-Director, Exhibitions & Programmes and Director, International Projects, Serpentine Gallery) and Julia Peyton-Jones (Director, Serpentine Gallery and Co-Director, Exhibitions & Programmes). The publication also includes photographs of Prince’s exhibition at the Serpentine.
