Vikram Seth is one of the most renowned Indian writers of his generation. Born in India and educated there and in England, California and China, he has written acclaimed books in several genres: verse novel, The Golden Gate; travel book, From Heaven Lake: Travels through Sinkiang and Tibet; animal fables, Beastly Tales; epic novels, A Suitable Boy and An Equal Music; a memoir, Two Lives; translations from classical Chinese poets; three collections of original poetry; and the libretto of an opera, Arion and the Dolphin.
Aradhana Seth is an established figure in Indian and international film-making, both as a production designer and art director – with credits ranging from The Bourne Supremacy to Deepa Metha’s
Fire and Earth – and as a documentary film-maker. Aradhana’s film DAM/AGE, 2002, traces writer Arundhati Roy’s bold and controversial campaign against the Narmada Dam project in India, which will displace up to a million people.
With Hans Ulrich Obrist, Co-director of the Serpentine Gallery, Vikram and Aradhana Seth will examine themes surrounding their work and the Indian Highway exhibition, reflecting on India as a country undergoing change in both economic and cultural spheres. Following the discussion there will be a screening of DAM/AGE.
